after i heard enol s beautiful track white mango on initial cut, i felt the need to reach out. i had a long and friendly conversation with matthieu (enola) about our musical background and agreed on the fact that we both have a weakness for pop music and early detroit techno, and quickly came to the conclusion that something with a little pop would be perfect for the label. enola came to us with >slow motion< featuring the vocals of will caulfield. its something different for enola, and something different for us, deep techno pop, perfect for 5am! enola is the new project of french dj matthieu monnin, who used to be part of the techno outfit noirdegout. matthieu now works on his own, finding his niche in melodious techno, taking inspiration from the sounds of the nineties. he has done work with the likes of rodriguez jr, anoraak, and arno gonzalez, and now he joins correspondant with >slow motion<. on the flip side, nhar, the other half of correspondant turns the darkness into light with for me, his best remix to date. if the original is for 5am, nhars remix is for 5pm, when the sun still shines and its warmth still remains.

organs of love are the power-sleaze duo of james mckinven (organs, love) and alicia matthews (vocals, love). james mckinvens musical odyssey started with playing synth in (kraftwerk, suicide-inspired) electro band berlin blondes. he then moved on to altered images. after that he worked in genetic studios learning from the modern day genius that was producer martin rushent (human league, the stranglers, the buzzcocks). then went on to form one dove and worked with maverick genius andy weatherall. after that he drifted back to where it all started, analog electro, and miss alicia matthews. alicia matthews has quite a different background – one from fine art and performance. through working together at the same bar and having many intoxicating late night chats, they decided to try to get back to a 70s theatrical, musical performance: where live music and art combine for something beyond the rock gig vibe. and luckily enough, miss matthews has quite the pair of pipes – a true vocal delight. the result is organs of love … who frequently perform live around glasgow and have quite the reputation of thee band to see. videos can be provided, but they are not for the faint-hearted! not that optimo music ever provide a dull moment …

following up the success of patrick del rey?s disconneced ep, rotraum music announces the release of the remixes . although based on the similar original song, ricardo motta, mr gil and dominik vogel are providing very different techhose tracks which are indeed genuine themselves.

this ep was formed with a concept in mind that involves a natural phenomenon occurring in various/different fields of science and nature - anti-parallelism. as the word suggests, anti-parallelism describes the natural relationship between two occurrences, objects or even non-material things, that are virtually identical and yet oriented in different directions. during the time the music was made i was researching natural phenomenons like this one. naturally, this became part of the nucleus, fabric and inspiration for this work. in genetics, for example, if the antiparallelity is corrupted during the process of dna replication it is called a mutation. this mutation can be anything from totally inconsequential to critical for the survival of the whole living organism. a double helix of dna contains two helixes, that are naturally anti-parallel to one another. in physics this could be two of the same objects moving through space and time in opposite directions - just like the instruments or parts of a beat in electronic music production. so metaphorically speaking,anti-parallelism holds a natural balance to keep it safe and stable. although this might sound all very conceptual and theoretical this music is obviously just what it is - it is not intended to teach math, physics or biology in any way. the above mentioned aspect has simply found its way through my head and might have led to a piece of music that somehow, at least for me, is connected to these thoughts. it might evoke something very different for you.

after several releases and remixes on different labels like yellow tail, blufin, parquet, trapez, traum, klasse records, rebirth, definitive, david keno is back home on his own imprint with 2 very soulful and housy tracks. alex flatner (cocoon, poker flat, circle) takes stars above into a more clubby and functional context

saobi records is back with a new ep, containing three excellent tracks on another classic deep house release, mixing together different forms and styles of music, trying to not have a precise musical genre but experimenting always new sounds!

a mixture of classic and modern day techno styles tsi returns with another two track 12inch that becomes the 4th volume of the series. “chordrophonic” is a powerful hypnotic chord dub driven affair whilst “sentiment of pity” takes a different path with staccato acid lines, spacey melancholic string pads and pounding tribalesque tom driven drum rhythms.

the next release coming out of the roska camp is this smart vinyl-only followup to the roska allstars release. this second instalment brings more of the same versatile movements from some fantastic producers currently leading the way for upfront danceable material. main man roska signs up terror danjah to pull of a smart remix of his track >without it<. its somewhat of a guilty pleasure hearing both artists signature idents in one song, terror with his evil gremlin laugh and roska with his ubiquitous shout out! however its all about the arrangement here as terror reforms those original trumpet sounds and adds some heavy distorted bass. j:kenzo serves up >let it move< which is all out pure electro style with punchy drums and dirty synths, again lending to the surprising nature of this labels output. tickles completes the vinyl only package with >da growler<. drums are tougher than iron and bass harder than rock as tickles blends funky, dubstep and house into his own dance-floor destructive mould. all three records show a different side to the current uk bass and funky scene, yet they somehow could only belong on kicks & snares. a fine package for a burgeoning label.

kowton and tom dicicco, residing in bristol and manchester respectively, make very different music from one another. kowtons seems to come from house, perhaps also electro and garage, often quite slow in tempo and hard to pin down to a specific genre. toms music is techno, bass heavy, melodic, textured and rooted around 125 bpm. with these distinctive styles the idea of a split ep might seem ambitious, but the result is four cohesive but different tracks that show the talents of both artists perfectly in the format of two originals on one side and two remixes of each others originals on the other. tom diciccos original is driven by a low-mid range thick stab and pounding kick drum, littered with intricate but not overbearing hi hat and snare work and some very atmospheric mid range. kowtons is subtle and sparse, low fidelity and plodding, with rattling percusion carrying the tune along. on the other side of the record, kowtons remix of toms original is driven by an enormous bassline, with an off kilter dubby feel to the slow tempo and genre defying tune. toms remix of kowton rounds off the ep with a return to stab driven techno, pulsating, dynamic and trance inducing.

if im a cliche were a home, fit would be the guest room. im a cliché has some relatives - whether distant or close - who happen to produce isolated gems that just have to be released. the first volume of fit gathers four dance tracks made by different people based in various countries. fitting im a cliches artistic view is the only thing they have in common, and it means a lot to the label.

if you were to ask freedarich to state the artistic area he prefers working in, his shotgun answer would most probably be music with all its influences. what amuses and enthuses me most, is the subtly absurd introduction of different styles freedarich says about himself. generally, his main passion seems to lie in the unearthing of the concealed and unknown, and making these accessible to the listener.

just like different fishes can be found in different grounds, also the acoustic tales of the micronaut take place in different regions of the emotional landscape: sometimes warm, sometimes fresh – sometimes calm and stagnant, sometimes lively and floating. and just like all the fishes are connected by the water surrounding them, also this album has its connecting element: a very individual and independent groove. this groove comes with a lot of surprises. for instance, when a guitar chord from the acoustic band atmosphere of gruen- dling suddenly gets tangled up in a loop and introduces an unexpected but coherent change into the direction of broken, electronic beats. or when the emotional world music elements of schleie mix up with exciting halfstep rhythms. sophi- sticated arrangements, unusual instrumentations and intense emotions- these are the main attributes of friedfisch . though the experimental character of this work does not really aim the dance floor, it still keeps connected to this place: two sensitive remixes by mollono.bass represent the upbeat for an entire series, being exclusively released on vinyl.
